51 killed in clashes in Afghanistan

At least 51 people, including 43 Taliban militants, have been killed in a battle between security forces and the militants in Afghanistan's Kunduz province since Saturday, Abdul Wasi Basil, spokesman for provincial government, said on Sunday.

"Clash between Taliban rebels and security forces has claimed the lives of 51 people, including 43 (Taliban) insurgents, and eight security personnel since Saturday," Wasi told Xinhua.

He also admitted that 16 more security personnel were injured in the clash which is still going on in Gortipa area.

Taliban militants fighting the government forces in various parts of the country has launched their annual spring offensive on April 24.
