At least six Maoist rebels were killed in a gun battle with the police in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, the police reported on Thursday.
On Wednesday evening around 5 p.m., District Reserve Group (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) were patrolling the core jungle under the Aranpur police station jurisdiction when they came upon a Maoist camp.
The ensuing gun battle, three male and three female Maoists were killed.
"Firing continued for about an hour and six Maoists were killed. A rifle and two guns, among other things, were discovered," Assistant Superintendent of Police (anti-Maoist operation) Gorakhnath Baghel said.
A team of DRG and STF is conducting a search operation since three days on the Sukma-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh.
