Around 70,000 Home Guards in Bihar on Tuesday called off their over a month-long strike following the government assurance to fulfil their demands.

"The 35-day strike of Home Guards ended after top police officials assured them their demands would be fulfilled," said an official at the state police headquarters here.

The indefinite strike begun on May 15 after talks with the state government failed on their demands -- including for increase in pay, accidental coverage during duty, and post-retirement benefits.

Home Guards are deployed in the traffic department, in banks, jails and at police stations.
