Four people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of 275 kg of silver jewellery sent to Delhi from Gujarat in a train, police said on Monday. Police also recovered 80 kg of the jewellery from one of the accused.

Sunil, 35, and Joginder, 38 -- both handcart pullers -- were arrested along with two of their associates Chanderpal, 52, and Harender Kumar, 48.

Police said all the accused were arrested from different locations in Delhi and other states during the probe.

Five other people -- main conspirator Sant Raj, along with Babloo, Anuj, Man Singh and Tahir -- were yet to be arrested.

"We have recovered 80 kg of the robbed silver jewellery from Chanderpal who was arrested from Uttar Pradesh," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma said.

"The remaining booty is yet to be recovered and investigation is still on," Verma said.

Amit Kumar, a resident of Gujarat working as manager-cum-partner in a rail cargo company, on May 11 had sent his workers Govind and Dilip along with Sunil and Hari Singh -- all handcart pullers -- to collect from the Old Delhi station a total of 11 cartons filled with silver jewellery coming from Rajkot in a train.

After collecting the cartons and loading them on handcarts, when all the cart-pullers reached Queens Road around 7.30 a.m., they were stopped by the accused men in a car.

"The accused men then took four cartons containing silver jewellery weighing around 275 kg and fled," the police official said.

Police suspected Sunil and interrogated him, during which he revealed his involvement.

"Sunil gave vital information about the place, timing and route of the cartons containing the jewellery," Verma said.
