A quarter of Italian students smoke marijuana

A parliamentary report on drug dependency has showed that a quarter of Italian students aged between 15 and 18 smoke marijuana.

According to the report, around 23.5 percent of students said that they had smoked marijuana over the past 12 months compared with 21.6 percent interviewed last year, Xinhua reported.

The report said the use of cocaine by the students have declined, while the use of heroin and hallucinogenic drugs was stable.

In Italy, possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use is subjected to fines and suspension of documents including passports and driving licenses.

Culivation and sale of marijuana in the country is illegal.
