Singer-songwriter Adam Levine says bad painful acne on his face left him "depressed" when he was in school. The Maroon 5 band member also believes that a person should combat acne to improve self-confidence.

"When I was in high school and I had acne, I spent a lot of time sulking in my room. I was depressed. I was not happy," femalefirst.co.uk quoted Levine as saying.

"High school is hard enough, but having this problem and knowing that everyone is looking at you in the hallways and I went to a small school and clearly nobody has acne like I did," he added.

The 34-year-old also admits that he still suffers from spots and use acne cream to cure it.

"I still use (acne cream) Proactiv+. Dealing with bad skin is an important thing because you will probably be able to be a little happier. Everyone is insecure to a certain point extent. I'm not made of steel. Things can bother me about my appearance all the time and they do," added Levine.
