The Afghan embassy here Saturday strongly condemned the alleged rape of a two and a half year old Afghan girl two days ago and said it is in close touch with Delhi Police in the case.
"The Embassy of Afghanistan in New Delhi strongly condemns an alleged sexual assault against a two-and-half year old Afghan girl in New Delhi.
"Upon learning about the report, we immediately contacted the Indian government and relevant law enforcement authorities, conveying to them our deepest concern about this particular case, as well as the safety of all other Afghan nationals residing in India," an embassy statement said.
"We have requested the Indian law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the reported incident in order to establish whether such heinous crime has actually taken place so that the perpetrator could be punished, in accordance with India's strict laws," it said, adding it was in close contact with both the Safdarjung Hospital and the police.
The alleged incident occurred in south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar area.
