Vadivelu, one of Tamil cinema's most popular comedians, began shooting for his upcoming Tamil period-comedy "Gaja Buja Buja Gaja Tenali Ramanum Krishnadevarayarum" here Monday after a two-year hiatus.

Vadivelu took a forced sabbatical after entering into politics during the 2011 assembly elections.

"It is wonderful to have him back and I'm really looking forward to work with him. We begun shooting today (Monday) at a studio here. I'm sure the audiences are eagerly waiting to watch him on the big screen soon," the film's director Yuvaraj told IANS.

Vadivelu will feature in a double-role in the film being produced by AGS Entertainment. Meenakshi Dixit has been roped in to play his female lead in the film.

The search for the rest of the cast is on.

Vadivelu made his cinematic debut with Tamil romantic-drama "En Rasavin Manasile". He is most popular for his slapstick style comedy in films such as "Friends", "Winner", "Maayi" and "Nagaram".

He has also played lead roles in films such as "Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi" and "Indiralohathil Na Azhagappan". He was last seen in Prashanth-starrer "Mambattiyan".
