After cricket, Kerala film stars get ready for badminton

After tasting success in staging Celebrity Cricket League matches, the South Indian film industry is now getting ready for the Kochi leg of the Celebrity Badminton League that will be held here on Saturday.

There are four franchisees, one each from the four south Indian film industry.

The Chennai leg was held last week, while the Bengaluru leg would be held on October 8, Hyderabad on October 22 with the finals taking place on November 12 at Kuala Lumpur.

Leading the Kerala Royals team is popular family hero Jayaram, who was spotted at the indoor stadium here on Wednesday, practicing for the upcoming matches.

 

"This is one game that I have been playing since my childhood and in those days our prized possession was a wooden shuttle racket that cost Rs 3. Now this game is being played by me as an exercise option," said Jayaram to the media.

Participating in the matches are actors from Karnataka's 'Karnataka Alps' led by actor Diganth, Tamil Nadu's 'Chennai Rockers' led by Arya and Andhra Pradesh's 'Tollywood Thunders' led by Sudheer Babu.

"There will be singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches and our team has been into serious practice for the past one month. With the arrival of Kunjuchacko Bobban, our team activity has gone up. The other members include Naran, Paravathy, Saiju Kurup, Rajeev Pillai among others. We are all waiting for the match day," said Jayaram.

Each franchisee has made an investment of around Rs two crores which comprises of franchise fee, celebrity costs and event management expenses.
