A consortium of international aid agencies said that they have helped about 11,000 displaced Somalis to return home, media reported Friday.

"Despite large-scale returns to many parts of Somalia are not possible at the moment, there is general recognition of the fact that solutions to protracted large-scale displacement will be an integral element of sustainable peace in Somalia," Xinhua quoted the consortium as saying in a report.

The report comes as Kenya says the refugee situation continues to pose security threats as armed groups have used the refugee camps as bases to prepare attacks.

Spontaneous returns are gaining momentum despite the fragility and insecurity which still persist. Access by humanitarian and development actors remain limited in many parts of South Central Somalia, the report added.
