The AIDWA Friday condemned the gang rape and murder of two girls in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district a day earlier and demanded speedy investigation of the crime and setting up of a fast-track court to try the culprits.

The two girls were found hanging from a tree.

"While the perpetrators of this crime have been arrested, and some action has been initiated against the erring police personnel, AIDWA (All India Democratic Women's Association) demands speedy investigation," the association said in a statement released here.

Adding that a fast track court be set up, AIDWA added: "An early verdict should be delivered without sparing any culprit. There should also be appropriate punishment meted out to the police personnel guilty of dereliction of duty."

Expressing shock at the "barbaric nature of the assault", AIDWA added it will fight for justice of the two girls in Uttar Pradesh as well as at a pan-India level, and will organise protest marches condemning the "alarming incidence of violence against women, in UP, and in other parts of the country".
