With an aim to reach out to the Muslim community, the central government on Thursday launched 'Progress Panchayats' from the Muslim-dominated Mewat district of Haryana.
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, speaking at the event, announced the setting up of 'Sadbhavna Mandap' (Harmony community) in all blocks of Mewat district, where programmes on communal harmony, skill development, education and sports would be organised.
"We would bring to you only the issues of development and growth, which would only ensure your welfare," Naqvi told the gathering.
"We intend to improve the standard of education in Mewat so that the people could feel the sense of equality. Various programmes of skill development would be started in Mewat so as to make the youth employable," the minister said.
