Budget carrier AirAsia on Monday said higher capacity deployment and increased frequency on two sectors enabled the airline to record 134 percent passenger traffic growth from October to December 2015.

"AirAsia posted a load factor of 84 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015 carrying more than five lakh passengers," the airline said in a statement.

The airline flew 2,17,209 passengers in the corresponding period of 2014.

By the end of 2015, AirAsia had a fleet strength of six aircraft with the inclusion of the new route New Delhi-Visakhapatnam and the escalation of frequency between New Delhi-Goa and New Delhi-Guwahati, the statement said.

On Sunday, AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes said the airline's Indian joint venture would increase its fleet strength by two aircraft shortly and a dozen later.

In AirAsia India, Malaysian AirAsia Bhd owns 49 percent stake, Tata Sons Ltd 41 percent stake and Telestra Tradeplace's Arun Bhatia the remaining 10 percent.
