Airports Authority of India (AAI) Monday entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government for development of airports in the state.
According to AAI, the state government has handed over Meerut, Moradabad and Faizabad airports for further development and has agreed to provide land and other logistical support for establishing of new civil enclaves at Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly and Kanpur.
"The thrust of the government is to have an inclusive growth in the country for which the regional or remote area air connectivity can act as a catalyst," the civil aviation ministry said in a statement.
"In this endeavour, the government has plans to take up the development of airports in tier-II and III cities including the airports belonging to state governments."
