Two elderly women were found dead in their apartment in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad city on Saturday, police said.
They were identified as sisters -- Kusum, 73, and Rajrani, 75 -- who had been living in the first-floor apartment along with their niece, Sadhna, on the ground floor.
It was the niece who alerted the police upon her discovery of the bodies after her call went unanswered by the aunts.
When she went up to check on them, she found the house ransacked, some items missing and the two lying dead on the bed. Both were strangulated, an official told IANS.
The double murder has caused panic in the Gujarati locality here.
