Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take up the matter of killing of a Punjabi youth in the US.
"Shocked at the gruesome killing of Nawanshahr's Dharampreet Singh in California. SushmaSwarajji, request you to take up the issue at highest level with US authorities to ensure justice for the family," Amarinder tweeted on Thursday.
The 21-year-old victim, from Khotran village near Banga town, was shot dead by robbers who struck at a gas station near San Francisco on Tuesday.
Dharampreet Singh had gone to the US to study law.
The victim, who had hid himself behind the cash counter when the robbers came, was shot at by one of the four robbers as they were leaving after looting the gas station.
Hate crimes against Sikhs have increased in different parts of the US.
