Heat wave conditions intensified in Punjab and Haryana on Monday with most places in both states recording maximum temperatures of over 42 degrees Celsius. Haryana's Hisar town was the hottest at 45.5 degrees Celsius, five degrees above the average.
Ambala city in Haryana recorded a high of 43.7 degrees, weather department officials said here.
Chandigarh recorded a high of 42.7 degrees, six degrees above normal.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Amritsar recorded 43.4 degrees each while Patiala was the hottest in the state at 43.9 degrees.
Met officials have said that the heat wave will continue and weather will largely remain dry over the next 24 to 48 hours.
People complained of power failures and water scarcity in some areas in Punjab and Haryana.
