The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Monday expelled a student for posting an objectionable comment after the terror attack that left 18 soldiers dead in Jammu and Kashmir.

Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (retd.) met the student, Mudassir Yousaf, a student of M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry), and berated him for his "anti-national post" on Facebook, AMU sources said.

The Vice Chancellor took a very serious view of the issue and took the decision to expel the student after personally probing the matter within hours of the matter coming to light, the sources said.

Lt. Gen. Shah said there was "no scope whatsoever at AMU for tolerating any incident which smacks of anti-national sentiments and there will be no compromise with the unity and integrity of the country at any cost".

He said the incident, which he described as "highly condemnable", had hurt the sentiments of the university fraternity.
