Ancelotti content as Real Madrid end 2014 on domestic high

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is looking ahead to his side's attempt to win the World Club Cup Championship in Morocco, secure in the knowledge that they will end the year top of the Spanish Primera Liga.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted two late goals as Real Madrid chalked up their 20th straight win thanks to a 4-1 triumph away to Almeria in a game which was considerably tougher than the score may indicate, reports Xinhua.

Indeed, had Iker Casillas not saved a penalty midway through the second half, the scores would have been level going into the last 20 minutes, before Ronaldo killed off the game in the last 10.

 

"Casillas made that save at a key moment of the match," admitted the Real Madrid coach.

"We have finished the year in the league very well. We have a good atmosphere to go to the World Club Cup Championship and for us nothing now has any value other than winning that Championship," said Ancelotti, who nevertheless will be looking for improvements when Real Madrid kick off Dec 16.

"We had a lot of chances, but we missed passes at some moments in the game, we struggled to take the initiative," he admitted.

Ancelotti was also asked about possible signings for the January transfer market, but said the club would wait to see how the fitness of midfielders, James Rodriguez and Luka Modric, progressed before coming to a decision.
