The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), the only tri-service operational command of the armed forces, celebrated it's 16th Raising Day at Port Blair.
Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, the Commander-in-Chief ANC, reviewed the parade on Saturday and awarded unit citations to five units for their outstanding performance in the last one year, a government statement said.
Verma commended all ranks for flawless conduct of bilateral exercises with the littoral states, rescue of 47 civilians from the sea in the last one year, and successful conduct of disaster management exercise.
He said that recently several important projects of strategic significance have been approved by the Defence Ministry and the induction of assets like MI-17 V5 helicopter, Dornier aircraft, Guided Missile Corvette and radars will enhance the operational capabilities of the ANC.
The three-day celebration -- October 7 to 9 -- concluded with an amphibious demonstration at Corbyn Cove beach. Being located in the island territories of Andaman and Nicobar, amphibious operations are the raison d'etre of ANC and are the pinnacle of joint operations by its components.
