Gary Anderson of Scotland upset 16-time winner Phil Taylor of England 7-6 to win his first PDC World Darts Championship title at the Alexandra Palace here.
The 44-year-old fourth seed took a 3-1 lead but Taylor, 54, fought back and went ahead 4-3, Xinhua reported Sunday.
Anderson, runner-up here at 2011, won three sets in a row to build up a 6-4 lead. The second-seeded Taylor, then, showed all his experience to level it at 6-6 and take it to a final-set showdown, which was sealed by the Scot.
"There was a set where I played well and went 6-4 up and then after the break Phil took the next two sets and I felt it was gone," Anderson said after the match.
"Phil is the best and always will be the best so that makes it more special."
"At 6-6, I felt I had him and my energy levels were good. But he beat me in the last set," Taylor said.
