Andhra Pradesh government Saturday announced a compensation of Rs.5 lakh each to the kin of the soldiers of army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) who laid down their lives recently.

While soldier M. Yadaiah was killed in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir on June 24, NDRF personnel K. Vinayakam lost his life in a helicopter crash during rescue operations in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand on June 25.

Yadaiah and Vinayakam hailed from Mahabubnagar and Chittoor districts respectively.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy also announced house sites to the families of the two at their native places and employment to eligible kin.

Yadaiah (28) was among eight soldiers killed when militants attacked an army convoy on the outskirts of Srinagar. His last rites were performed with military honours in his native Kondareddypalle village in Mahabubnagar district.

Vinayakam was among 20 defence personnel killed in a helicopter crash during rescue operations in Uttarakhand.
