Madrid, Aug 7 (IANS/EFE) Andy Warhol, who was born in Pittsburgh Aug 6, 1928, continues to inspire the art world on what would have been his 85th birthday Tuesday.

Warhol's work is still among the best known on the international art scene 26 years after his death in New York Feb 22, 1987, at the age of 58.

The high selling prices for the pop artist's works is proof of his popularity and the interest that he has continued to generate in the decades after his death.

Warhol's works dominated art auctions in the past year, continuing a three-year trend that saw total sales climb to $329 million.

Exhibitions of Warhol's works have been held in countries around the world, with one show making the rounds in Asia this year and introducing the public to pop art.

The Andy Warhol Museum is celebrating the artist's 85th birthday by putting up a web cam to stream live video from his grave in a Catholic cemetery in Bethel Park, a city just outside Pittsburgh.
