Angry villagers on Tuesday pelted stones at a school in Rajasthan's Sikar district as news spread of the rape of a Class 12 girl by the school's director and a teacher.

The school's director, Jagdish Prasad, and a teacher, Jagat Singh Gujjar, have been detained for raping the 18-year-old student, police said.

"We have detained Jagdish and Jagat and are interrogating them," Kushal Singh, Circle Officer, Neem Ka Thana, told IANS on phone.

Around 100-150 angry villagers gathered outside the Janta Bal Niketan, a co-educational school, in a village near Ajitgarh in Sikar in the morning and pelted stones, breaking some of the windows.

"The school had to be closed," said Moolaram, Assistant Sub Inspector, Ajitgarh police station.

"There is general anger in the village. We never expected this kind of thing in our area. We are demanding that the school's registration be cancelled," said Ajit Singh, a local, on phone.

There are around 400 students in Janta Bal Niketan.

According to reports, the girl is in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment in a Jaipur hospital. "She is critical and is unconscious," a doctor at the SMS Hospital said.

The statement of the girl will be recorded after her health condition improves.

It is alleged that the two men raped the girl for two months on the pretext of taking extra classes.

After she became pregnant she was taken to a hospital in Shahpura where her abortion was carried out clandestinely. However, her condition deteriorated as she started to bleed profusely.

She was taken to a hospital in Ajitgarh where her family was told she had undergone an abortion and she was referred to a Jaipur hospital.
