A Pakistani man was attacked by a mob on Friday inside a mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after he was accused of making blasphemous remarks following prayers, the media reported.

The man is alleged to have pushed the Imam of the mosque to allow him to speak after the Friday prayers, a local official told Dawn online.

Eyewitnesses claim the man then made the remarks amidst the prayer gathering.

As worshippers started beating the man, the Imam handed him over to the police fearing for his life.

Soon after the accused was shifted, the mob attacked and broke into the police station amid firing in the air and heavy tear gas shelling.

The firing resulted in power outages nearby as transmission lines were damaged by bullets, Dawn online reported.

The incident comes days after a vigilante mob lynched 23-year-old Mardan University student Mashal Khan over blasphemy allegations.
