Sunny weather continued in the capital Saturday with the maximum temperature settling at 35 degrees Celsius, a notch below the seasons' average. The Met office has forecast light rains Sunday adding that heavy showers are not expected for at least another week due to the "weak monsoon".
According to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official, the low atmospheric pressure is responsible for less than expected monsoon rainfall.
"Low pressure triggers rains. However, it has not shifted over Delhi yet... It is causing heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh, parts of Uttar Pradesh and south-eastern Rajasthan," said the official.
In addition, the moisture and wind, which come from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and cause rain, are not getting converted into precipitation either.
Light rains are though expected in Delhi Sunday.
"There is a strong possibility of Delhi getting rains in the next couple of days," the IMD official said.
"The skies will be cloudy tomorrow (Sunday) and parts of the city will get rains," added the official.
The maximum and minimum temperature will hover around 35 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Though the possibility of heavy rains in the next week is very thin, the situation may improve after that, said the IMD.
