A protest against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) has been planned here Aug 5, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said Friday.
"Demonstrations demanding the closure of Kudankulam plant will be held Aug 5," Vaiko told reporters here.
He added that local people have been protesting against the project for over 700 days now but the government has not heeded to their demands.
The protest will be organised by the Anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project People's Federation, which has also demanded withdrawal of cases filed against the anti-KNPP protesters.
Apart from the MDMK, Manitheneya Makkal Katchi and some other outfits will participate in the protest Aug 5, a day before the Hiroshima Day.
It was on Aug 6, 1945 that the US dropped the first atom bomb on Hiroshima killing several thousand people.
