Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif, who is currently visiting the US, has told top American military and political leaders that his country's security forces will continue their offensive against militant groups in the tribal regions.

Gen. Sharif held meetings with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence Thursday, Xinhua reported citing a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The general expressed Pakistan's resolve to continue the military operation till the last terrorist is eliminated, said the statement.

"The Pakistan military is confident to hold their gains in FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) to ensure that terrorists would not be able to return or establish their operational basis on the Pakistani soil," he said.

Overall security situation in the region and matters relating to Afghanistan were also discussed in the meetings.

The US Senators expressed their desire to forge a strong and lasting partnership between the US and Pakistan, the statement added.

Sharif also briefed the Senators about Pakistan's plans to rehabilitate the dislocated people from Waziristan at the earliest possible.
