Arab League, EU sign crisis management protocol

The Arab League (AL) and the European Union (EU) signed on Tuesday a cooperation protocol to boost the capabilities of the AL in confronting crisis.

The agreement was signed by AL Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi and EU's foreign policy Chief Federica Mogherini at the AL headquarters in Cairo, reports Xinhua.

The protocol will also help the accomplishment of the second phase of a project between the league and the EU in the early warning system domain and crisis management, which was implemented between 2011 and 2014.

"This is a very important day... the Arab League and the EU cooperates in many fields; economic field, political field and media field," al-Arabi told reporters during a joint press conference.

 

Al-Arabi also pointed out that a new stage of relationships has already started between the EU and the AL after signing this protocol, praising the EU's balanced role in the international public relations.

Mogherini said that she was very proud of the partnership and cooperation the EU has established with the AL.

The EU and the AL are complementary to each other, She said, stressing that the level of mutual cooperation was extremely high and important.

Meanwhile, Mogherini also said that the EU was working hard to reach a settlement to the Syrian issue that maintains its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On Libya, the EU official said the international community was ready to help Libya provide better services to its people.
