Argentine President Mauricio Macri will visit India from Sunday at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the External Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.

The three-day visit will provide an opportunity to the two sides to review progress in bilateral ties and to explore new avenues of cooperation.

Macri, accompanied by First Lady Juliana Awada, will be in India between February 17 and 19. On the first day in India, Macri will visit Agra.

Macri will meet President Ram Nath Kovind, who will host a banquet in his honour, and hold talks with Prime Minister Modi.

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Emilio Monzo and other senior officials will accompany the President.

The main day of official engagements in Delhi will be on February 18. Macri will be in Mumbai the next day.

Modi visited Argentina for the G20 from November 30 to December 1, 2018 and met Macri there.

Bilateral trade at present is around $3 billion.

India exports mainly two-wheelers, iron and steel, agro chemicals, yarn, organic chemicals, bulk drugs and drug intermediates and motor vehicles, while Argentina exports to India mainly vegetable oils (soya bean and sunflower), finished leather, cereals, residual chemicals and allied products and pulses, said a Ministry statement.

Indian companies have made investments in IT, agro-chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors in Argentina. The total Indian investments in Argentina are to the tune of $1 billion.
