Some 700 soldiers and police personnel Friday combed a mountainous area in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district to track down five or six terrorists, army sources said.

The massive operation began a day earlier after the guerrilla were spotted close to the Line of Control (LoC) that divides the state between the two countries.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police has joined the military in the search operation in Shamswari forests.

"The (security forces) are slowly closing in on the cordoned off forest area," a source told IANS.

It was not clear if the guerrillas had recently sneaked into India from Pakistan.
