The Indian Army will carry out an exercise for flood relief in an urban setting in Guwahati from June 28 to 30, an official statement said on Monday.
"The exercise aims to war game existing disaster management plans at the state and district down to the municipal level incorporating national observers under existing NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) guidelines as related to urban flooding and incorporate armed forces into the disaster management framework for better synergy," it said
The exercise, the army said, will use modern technology in executing the nuances of flood relief.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles will be put in use to detect people trapped in flood waters and reconnaissance of flood-affected areas from an elevated platform. Helicopters will be used for rescue and relief operations and distribution of relief to inaccessible areas.
Indian Navy divers, in concert with those of elite Special Forces of the Indian Army, will also participate.
