At an art-and-jewellery exhibition in the capital Monday, artists painted mannequins in myriad hues narrating the folklore of Lord Krishna who manifests himself in the form of two peacocks or of the story of Adam eating the forbidden apple.
Inspired by artist Nafisa Ali's painting on a mannequin, curators Preeti Singh and Kavita Maheshwari roped in eight artists and jewellery designer Anshika Goyal for "Gold-E-Locks".
"The idea was to try something different. When we first saw art on mannequin by Nafisa Ali, we thought it a good idea to encourage more artists to paint on the new canvas," Maheshwari told IANS.
Artists like Ali, Shahed Pasha, Pradosh Swain, Anup Kumar Chand, Vijendra Vij, Shashi Kumar, Himadri Bhattacharya and others have experimented with various themes and painted mannequins in different hues.
Bhattacharya has painted the folklore of Krishna on a female mannequin in the form of two peacocks. The birds in brilliant colour contour female mannequin with grace and poise.
"It was a different experience because while you are painting on a canvas you take many artistic liberties. While when you are painting a mannequin, you have to keep the audience in mind. It has to look beautiful," he added.
