Social activist Aruna Roy Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reiterating her demand for restructuring the pension scheme.

Elderly citizens, including Roy, were detained Friday for demonstrating outside Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 7 Race Course Road official residence here while they were pressing for restructuring the pension scheme.

"We are writing to you, in the hope you will meet and listen to us and make sure we are given universal old-age pension and are able to live our last few years with dignity and in peace," said the letter, also signed by veteran leader Baba Adhav.

The senior citizens have been protesting at the Jantar Mantar here since Nov 27, demanding the government immediately introduce universal and non-contributory old age pension system with a minimum dignified monthly pension amount.
