A five-member team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will visit Kedarnath Sunday to assess the damage that was caused by the floods to the temple and will plan its restoration, officials said here Friday.

"The ASI team will leave Delhi and visit Kedarnath on Sunday. It will assess the damage and prepare the roadmap of the restoration work at the temple," the official told IANS.

The incessant rains that hit Uttarakhand over three days from June 14, leading to flash floods and cloudbursts, have led to hundreds of deaths and hundreds others missing.

Over 100,000 stranded people, including pilgrims and tourists, have been rescued.

According to state officials, the Kedarnath temple complex has been badly damaged and may not resume for the next couple of years.

"The ASI team will be led by ADG (Additional Director General) B.R. Mani," the official said.
