Asiad basketball: India men down Kazakhstan 81-60

The Indian men's basketball team registered their second win from three matches in the 17th Asian Games here Monday, defeating Kazakhstan 81-60 in a qualifying round Group B encounter at the Hwaseong Sports Complex Gymnasium.

The Indian team took a commanding 10-point lead after the first quarter and maintained their supremacy throughout the match to register a comfortable victory.

Joginder Singh was the star of the show for India with 25 points, five rebounds and two assists. Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and captain Amritpal Singh also impressed, notching 16 and 15 points respectively.

Anton Ponomarev was the top hoopster for the Kazakh team with 16 points, 14 rebounds and a assist.

 

India beat Palestine 89-49 in their first match before bowing to Saudi Arabia 67-73 Sunday.

Kazakhstan earlier beat Saudi Arabia 89-59 and Palestine 72-50 in the group's other matches.

India, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia each have two wins out of three qualifying round matches so far while Palestine are yet to win a single match.
