Asiad: India sailors disappoint

Indian men and women sailors had an unimpressive day in the 17th Asian Games at the Wangsan Sailing Marina here Friday.

In the men's section, Brijraj Verma and Pankaj Kumar finished fifth in hobie-16-open multihull category with 32 points. Upamanyu Gautama Dutta and Arosh Sanjeev Chaudhari secured a seventh spot in the 420-men's two person dinghy division with 42 points.

In men's optimist one person dinghy, Chitresh Tatha managed a sixth position with a net point of 39. The next set of races in this category will be held Saturday.

In the women's section, Varsha Gautham and Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan were the pick of the sailors, finishing third in 29er-women's two person dinghy with a net point of 16. Ramya Saravanan was seventh in the optimist-women's one person dinghy with a net point of 43.

 

Nethra Kumanan was seventh in the laser radial-women's one person dinghy with a net point of 42. She will be hoping to fare better in the next set of races Saturday. In the 420-women's two person dinghy division, Diya Anna and Zara Khuzaima finished last among six participants with a net point of 39.
