A dream run for local wild card Asish Sen continued as he brushed top seed Puneet Kumar Gupta aside to enter the final of the men's singles at the Calcutta South Club Senior ITF Tennis Championship at the red clay courts of the Calcutta South Club on Thursday.
Sen, down 0-3 in the opening set, came back strong to win it by a close 6-4.
In the second set he faltered at the crucial stages and dropped it with an identical score of 4-6.
In the decider, top seed Gupta took the marathon to a 5-5 before exiting the championship by a 4-6,6-4,5-7 loss. Sen will play Sharad Tak, another unseeded participant in the draw, in the final on Saturday.
In both Men's Singles 35 and 45, the top seeds sailed through to the finals, doing justice to their billing.
Former National champion, Nitten Kirrtane whitewashed 4th seeded Narendra Choudhary by 6-0,6-2 in men's singles semi-final, whereas Jagdish Tanwer got the better of third seed Hatinder Panwer by a similar score of 6-0,6-2 in the men's singles category.
