Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday called on President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan and offered his condolences over the death of his wife Suvra Mukherjee.

Suvra Mukherjee died on August 18 here following prolonged illness.

Gogoi met Mukherjee on Wednesday evening, according to sources.

Gogoi, who arrived here on Monday, attended a meeting of the sub-group of chief ministers on skill development at the NITI Aayog on Tuesday.

He is scheduled to meet union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday and discuss the flood situation in Assam among other issues.

Prior to leaving for New Delhi, Gogoi said in a news conference in Guwahati that his government has sought Rs.500 crore from the Centre for flood relief.

Gogoi may also meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi following the decision of former state health and education minister and party leader Himanta Biswa Sarma to join the BJP. Sarma was at one point of time seen as Gogoi's 'right hand man'.
