Reggio Calabria (Italy), Feb 28 (IANS/AKI) Police in southern Italy on Monday impounded assets worth 2.5 million euros in an operation that targeted Calabrian mafia suspect Giuseppe Stefano Tito Liuzzo and his family.

The property included six buildings, a company, three cars and financial assets, tax police said.

The seizures were carried out by Italian tax police on the orders of anti-mafia prosecutors in Reggio Calabria.

Liuzzo, a prominent local builder was arrested in 2013 together with his brother on suspicion of mafia association.

Liuzzo belongs to the Calabrian mafia or 'Ndrangheta's Rosmini clan and handled its finances, especially its interests in the building sector, according to prosecutors.

Liuzzo had registered various items of property in other people's names, including that of his partner and her brother, investigators said.
