The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) Gurgaon, India's largest quality vocational training provider for the apparel industry, has got the "Best Institute: Innovation" award from Assocham.

The ATDC received the award for its exemplary contribution in introducing new innovative skill development training courses for youth.

The award was presented by Bandaru Dattatreya, minister of state for labour and employment, at a ceremony organised by Assocham in partnership with various ministries.

The event discussed the current scenario on skill development following the launch of the ambitious 'Make in India' campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The ATDC was recognised for its innovative training initiatives like creation of brand 'SMART' (Skills for Manufacturing of Apparel through Research and Training).

ATDC CEO Darlie Koshy and vice chairman Hari Kapoor received the award on behalf of the ATDC.

"In India, we are providing training to 2.8 lakh people which is very less compared to Germany (30 lakh), Japan (one crore) and China (two crore), the minister said on the occasion.

About the challenges posed due to increasing globalisation and technological changes, the minister said technical upgradation was very important particularly in the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector.

Darlie Koshy said: "We believe in imparting skills and improving lives. Acquisition of skills is the future of the Indian job market and its global economic clout. We always try to come up with innovative approaches in skill development which provides new ways of talent development for the youth."
