Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone is paying great attention to assigning defensive tasks to midfielders during the group's training session, in preparation for the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28.
After efforts to boost Atletico's defensive capabilities on Tuesday, Simeone focused on Wednesday on midfield tactics executed by Saul Niguez, Augusto Fernandez, Gabi Fernandez and Koke Resurreccion, reports Efe.
On Wednesday, the Argentine coach tried deploying Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic next to the Uruguayan Diego Godin at the back.
Simeone assigned the players to intensify their pressure on the sides and the middle through group pressure on rivals.
These tactics highlighted nearly half an hour of training on Wednesday morning.
Afterwards, the coach conducted a mini-match in midfield, featuring Savic next to Godin instead of Jose Maria Gimenez, who operated in what seemed like a 4-4-2 formation.
