DRDO chief Avinash Chander, who retires Nov 30, will continue in his post till May 2016 on contract basis with the same terms and conditions, defence ministry said Friday.
Chander's appointment beyond his date of retirement for 18 months "would be on contract basis, with the same terms and conditions" as he would be entitled to before the date of retirement, the release said.
Chander's contractual term will end May 31, 2016.
Chander joined DRDO in 1972 and was appointed its chief last year.
The release followed speculation in sections of the media that Chander's term would end prematurely.
The NDA government has said that it is keen to boost indigenisation and has asked Defence Research and Development Organisation and other defence public sector undertakings to continuously work in this direction. It has also stressed on adhering to timelines.
