Expressing dismay at Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav meeting Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan Monday warned this act would send wrong signals to the people.
In a written statement, the minister said he was unable to understand what was there to mediate now after the demolition of the Babri mosque way back in 1992.
Blaming Singhal and his associates for the demolition, he sounded a word of caution for the former UP chief minister saying that the party should not get involved in anything that is in contravention to its political philosophy.
"Any sort of goodwill from the people behind the demolition of the Babri mosque can only be to the detriment of the party," he said.
The minister also expressed hope that Mulayam Singh will not compromise on his image as the party had come this long owing to its long-standing struggle against communal forces.
He further added that Singhal was involved in the Babri demolition and hence being seen with him was sending a wrong image about the party.
