Badal meets fasting TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu

Signalling contours of emerging political alignments, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Thursday met Telegu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Chandrababu Naidu at Andhra Bhawan here.

Naidu, a former Andhra Pradesh chief minister, is on an indefinite fast here to protest the state's proposed bifurcation.

Expressing concern over Naidu's deteriorating health, Badal, who is the patron of the Akali Dal, said his party would extend all possible support and cooperation to the TDP against the "arrogance" of the Congress.

He accused the Congress leadership of being bent upon putting peace, communal harmony and integrity of the country in peril for the sake of its "narrow political ambitions".

 

The Akali Dal is a constituent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The BJP, however, has extended support to creation of a separate Telangana state. opposed.
