Fourth seeded Viktor Axelsen of Denmark beat reigning champion Lin Dan to grab a bronze medal in the men's singles event of the badminton competition at the ongoing Rio Olympics here on Saturday.

The Chinese went down 21-15, 10-21, 17-21 to the Danish opponent in an hour and 10 minutes.

The 32-year-old veteran Dan had lost his semi-final match to Malaysian giant Lee Chong Wei in a neck-and-neck battle 21-15, 11-21, 20-22 at the Pavilion 4 of the Riocentro.
