Bahrain has failed to attract Indian doctors despite offering the same salaries as Bahraini doctors and other allowances provided for foreigners.

Maha Al Kawari, chairwoman of the Bahrain Medical Society, said this situation has proved that Bahraini doctors are lowly paid, the Gulf Daily News reported Sunday.

Kawari said the association had submitted proposals to parliament and the Civil Service Bureau asking for a 50 percent rise in salaries and 30 percent rise in danger allowance for doctors.

"Qatari and UAE (United Arab Emirates) doctors are paid three times more than Bahraini physicians," she said.

The association called for a doctors' monthly "clinic allowance" worth 2,000 Bahraini dinars (about $5,300) in addition to a monthly 1,000 Bahraini dinars allowance for consultants.
