The Kolkata-based sweet maker Banchharam Food Products' famous sweets will soon be available on shelves of shops in the US as the firm starts exports, an official said here.

"We will soon start exporting our range of products to the US and have roped in distributors... We are also in talks with other distributors at the moment," the company's director, Subhajit Ghosh, told media persons here.

Ghosh said the sweets, meant for exports to the US, will be made in accordance to the stringent US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) norms from its plant in Sankrail in the Howrah district in West Bengal.

"Initially, we'll start our presence in the US market with exports but we also have plans to open outlets there," Ghosh added.

The company's sweetmeats will be available in the US across departmental stores as packaged items and will not be sold on a piece-meal basis which is the common practice in India.

Ghosh said he is considering California as the prime location in case the company sets up an outlet in the US.

"Areas in New York and Washington DC are also under consideration," he said.

The states of California, New York and the capital of the US have a substantial Bengali population which the company is targeting.

Banchharam Food Products has a presence across India and is now looking forward to expand overseas, Ghosh said.
