Bangladesh's largest opposition party spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been sent to prison after he surrendered in a court here on Tuesday.
A Dhaka court has ordered Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to be jailed after rejecting his bail plea in three cases of violence, bdnews24.com quoted defence counsel Sanaullah Mia as saying.
Fakhrul surrendered earlier in the day before the trial court as per a Supreme Court order.
He had gone abroad for treatment after securing a three-month interim bail from the appellate division. Fakhrul's bail was extended after he returned home.
However, the court on Monday scrapped his plea seeking more time before surrendering.
