Bangladesh's anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested a key member of a banned militant outfit here.

An RAB spokesperson said Mushfiq Martin Jenny is an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert of Neo-JMB -- an offshoot of the banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, Xinhua news agency reported.

The outfit was blamed for the deadly attack on a Spanish cafe in Dhaka's diplomatic enclave Gulshan on July 1, 2016.

The RAB spokesperson said the militant was arrested from Dhaka's Uttara area on Wednesday morning.

According to the official, the militant belonged to the "Tamim Chowdhury-Sarwar Jahan group" of Neo-JMB, and was held with many improvised explosives and remote control devices.

Bangladeshi police have reportedly so far hunted down and killed at least 40 militants linked to the cafe attack, said the report.
